Urge urinary incontinence Loss of urine due to sudden urges to urinate

It is the involuntary loss of urine through the urethra, associated with urinary urgency.

The Overactive Bladder syndrome is characterized by the occurrence of urinary urgency associated with too frequent urination, including at night (nocturia). Urge urinary incontinence occurs when, during the sudden and undesirable urge to urinate, there is then loss of urine.

Clinically, it is a condition that may severely compromise the quality of life, because more than the incontinence itself, the urgency and fear of having an involuntary urination in an inappropriate place may prevent a wide variety of daily activities.

The first line of treatment is oral medication. Other therapeutic alternatives include injection of botulinum toxin (through urethrocystoscopy) or sacral root nerves neuromodulation, which may allow for adequate control of symptoms with less adverse effects than oral therapy in tablets.
