Dr. Ricardo Pereira e Silva was consulted by Sapo, in his capacity as Vice-President of the Portuguese Association of Neurourology, to comment on the topic of urinary incontinence in Portugal.

In the article, the specialist explains the different types of the condition (stress, urgency and mixed incontinence), the main risk factors and the available treatment options.

He notes that urinary incontinence affects around 600,000 people in Portugal and that only 10% seek medical help, in part due to the misconception that it is a normal consequence of ageing or an exclusively female condition.
