Perineo-esphincter reeducation Reeducation of the pelvic floor muscles

Urinary incontinence (female and male) is an extremely frequent and very socially penalizing condition that may have serious emotional repercussions.

Vesico-sphincter re-education is a noninvasive treatment of urinary incontinence, through the use of behavioral techniques (with or without biofeedback) and pelvic electrostimulation.

By the behavioral techniques, it is intended to teach the patient to strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor, in order to increase resistance to the flow of urine. To do this, it is shown how to identify these muscles and how to exercise them properly.

Biofeedback can optimize the results obtained with behavioral therapy, allowing monitorization of muscular behavior through the use of computerized instruments and imaging, which translates into a better understanding of the exercises.

Electrotherapy, on the other hand, involves the stimulation of muscular contraction through cutaneous, endo-oriental or endovaginal electrodes, with the aim not only of strengthening the pelvic floor, but also of inhibiting the activity of the bladder muscle (detrusor), in the cases where this is desirable.

The treatment sessions will always be performed by a Physiotherapist specialized in the treatment and re-education of the pelvic floor muscles that control the urinary tract.
