Circumcision Removal of the penis' foreskin

Circumcision is one of the earliest known operations. Historically it has been held for religious or social reasons, even both. Its practice is mandatory in Jewish law and is considered a rule of hygiene by Islam.

About one in six men in the world is circumcised. Indications for circumcision are phimosis, paraphimosis, Bowen's disease, penile tumors, condylomas, trauma and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
