Frenulum breve Short frenulum of the penis

The frenulum of the penis is an elastic skin band that connects the penis glans to the preputial skin (foreskin).

When this band is not sufficiently long and elastic it restricts the movement of the foreskin and may cause pain or even prevent the retraction of the foreskin.

This condition, called frenulum breve or short frenulum, may cause pain during sexual activity and can rupture, which results in significant bleeding.

The treatment is performed with a simple surgery called frenuloplasty, in which an incision is made in the frenulum to lengthen it. Some cases may, in turn, have an indication for circumcision.
