The television channel SIC produced a news piece, aired on the "Primeiro Jornal" program, about an innovative surgical intervention for the treatment of overactive bladder.

The intervention, called sacral root nerves neuromodulation, involves the insertion of a device under the skin that performs electrical stimulation of the sacral nerves, without any action required by the patient.

In Portugal, the first successful implant was performed on a 24-year-old woman, by Dr. Ricardo Pereira e Silva at the Hospital de Santa Maria, allowing her to live again without the many limitations caused by her overactive bladder condition.
