Insertion and removal of IUD Intrauterine contraceptive device

The IUD is a device that is placed inside the uterus and acts as a foreign body, causing an inflammatory reaction that prevents pregnancy. It is recommended for 10 years of use, having a pregnancy rate of 0.6% in the 1st year.

This contraceptive method is indicated for women who want an effective and lasting contraception method without the use of hormonal contraceptives.

The use of this method may lead to an increase in menstrual flow, which occurs in 50% of cases, and also to pain during menstruation.

A first follow-up with an ultrasound examination (3 months after IUD insertion) should be performed, followed by an annual check.

This procedure cannot be executed during menstruation.
