Peniscopy Microscopic analysis of penis' skin lesions

It is an examination that evaluates the presence of suspicious lesions in the penis' skin. In most cases, it aims to investigate suspicious lesions from infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

The typical appearance of HPV infection are vegetative lesions, which look like warts, but may also be flat. To increase the sensitivity of the test, a diluted solution of acetic acid may be used, which may lead to suspected whitish lesions.

The examination is quick and painless, performed in the lying position and consists of observing the skin of the penis and urethral meatus with a microscope - colposcope, which allows the visualization of eventual millimetric lesions.

The examination and subsequent treatment will always be performed by an experienced Urologist.
