Penile ecodoppler with vasoactive agent injection Evaluation of erection and vascularization of the penis
Penile Doppler is one of the key exams in the evaluation of erectile dysfunction. It allows to distinguish between the different causes of erectile dysfunction and to guide the Urologist in the therapeutic indication for each patient.
It is a safe and painless examination, lasting approximately 30 minutes. It begins with a painless injection, given directly into the penis (intra-cavernosa), of a vasoactive agent (prostaglandin E2) that causes an erection in a few minutes. The erectile response to the drug is then evaluated, as well as blood flow in the arteries of the penis, measuring its velocity, resistance index and flow waveform morphology. This is possible through the application of the Doppler effect in the interaction of the ultrasound with the blood flow and with the
simultaneous obtaining of ultrasound images of these same arteries.
This examination will always be performed by a Urologist doctor specialized in Andrology and in the diagnosis and treatment of male sexual dysfunction, which gives him greater sensitivity for a correct evaluation of the exam.
